Veteran Success Story: Paul Laracy

U.S. Army, 6 years
Army National Guard, 5 years
Veteran Service Representative
Department of Veterans Affairs
Louisville, Kentucky

Prior to ending active duty service in September 2012, Army Veteran Paul Laracy worried about job prospects in a tough economy. He hoped to apply his legal education and military experience to find meaningful, mission-driven employment in the Louisville, Kentucky area. Paul visited the VA for Vets website to gain insight into the federal hiring process and learn job application tips. “I found it more useful than any other resource out there,” Paul said about career-readiness resources available to Veterans.

Through the VA for Vets program, Paul received guidance and assistance from Regional Veteran Employment Coordinator for Kentucky, Brian Grubb. Mr. Grubb helped position Paul for success by providing him with helpful tips about navigating the federal job search and creating an effective resume. After speaking with Mr. Grubb, Paul applied for the Veteran Service Representative position within the Veteran Benefits Administration at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Paul was soon offered the position as a result of the hiring processes VA implemented to help Veterans quickly find employment. He was able to complete a seamless transition from the military to the civilian workforce.

Mr. Laracy is grateful for the support he received from the VA for Vets program. “I was given the peace of mind that there will be food on the table for my children,” Paul said. “Moreover, I have the honor and privilege of serving in a vital, even humble, role.”
