Ms. Mary Melanson
Authorization Quality Review Specialist
VA Louisville Regional Office
Ms. Melanson recently wrote the Veteran Employment Services Office (VESO) to commend the assistance she received from Mr. Brian Grubb and Mr. Mark Berninger, both of whom serve as VESO Regional Veteran Employment Coordinators (RVECs).
Ms. Melanson had been searching and applying on her own for another government job in the Colorado area for about a year without success. One day, she had the chance to meet Brian while working at the Louisville, VA Regional Office and he told her all about the retention services program. Since she was focusing on Colorado, Brian put her in touch with Mark. According to Mary, she was lucky to then have two experts helping her.
Mary stated that she learned that she was going about job searching all wrong. Brian sat with her and explained how to incorporate specific qualifications and the questionnaire into her resume. With this new knowledge, Mary began building a new resume on USAJobs. Both Brian and Mark reviewed her resume and gave her the feedback she needed to help stand out in the application process.
According to Mary, Brian also helped her step up her interview skills. He provided her with pages of potential questions and then did mini mock interviews. For the first time, Mary said she walked out of her interview feeling good.
Mary will be reporting to her new position with the Social Security Administration on July 14. She stated that she knew she would not have been selected for the position if it weren’t for the outstanding assistance from Brian and Mark.
